Today’s update brought quite a few surprises compared to what had been predicted. The changes take effect from Monday 30 August at 4am.
Spain avoided the red list again but travellers are still being asked to get a PCR rather than a Lateral flow test for their return to England test before flying home.
In this post:
Green list and green watch list additions
New Green list additions:
- Canada
- Switzerland
- Denmark
- Finland
- Lithuania
- Lichtenstein
- The Azores
If you arrive back before Monday 30 August at 4am you will still have to abide by amber rules.
Red list additions
Two more countries will go turn from amber to red at 4am on Monday 30 August. If you don’t land before that time you will have to do hotel quarantine.
- Thailand
- Montenegro
No countries were removed from the red list despite several being predicted to.

There is a very simple solution to this travel list nonsense. Everybody stop travelling, full stop. This will force the airlines to confront this nonsense head-on. If you go along with this nonsense, it will never end. It will just get worse and worse. Guaranteed. Stop complying, and all this nonsense will quickly collapse. Short-term pain for long-term gain.
On Timatic it still says lateral flow is accepted for return to U.K. from Spain. My daughter is already in Spain with her lateral flow kit to return home. We just booked lateral flows in Spain for 72 hours before return to U.K. this is a blow but I cannot see when the change came in.
They only recommend it. It’s not mandatory. Lateral flow is fine.
I agree, but You will never get people in their masses to stop flying especially after not being able to holiday for so long. It’s just going to be a suck it and see approach. I’ve had many cancellations over the past year or so which is frustrating. Some people don’t care about flying or Holidays but the majority of people do.
Found out about Thailand moving to red while 41000 feet over Russia. Now in Phuket for one night before getting home Sunday morning. To say I’m unimpressed is a tad of an understatement.
I’m so sorry to hear that. The whole system is ridiculous
It sure is. Happy to write a report for you on the whole Phuket Sandbox experience (to be ruined by the uk government) if you’re interested.
Thanks Gary. That would be very interesting to hear about.
