Clan Sheraton Grand And Clan Glasshouse

Marriott Bonvoy has its own Clans; Clan Glasshouse and Clan Sheraton Grand. Visit Edinburgh (and Scotland) and claim victory – no matter where you stay — by being smitten by the beauty and history of this idyllic Northern destination in the United Kingdom.
Ask a local about any subject and receive a story driven by personality and pride. Step into some of the cleanest cabs in the world and the cabbie will tell you (in our case) about his daughter’s desire for him to emigrate to Australia; he would have none of that, vying never to leave his beloved Edinburgh.

I do love the Sheraton, although I’ve had one or two issues with service and the facilities recently. The staff are very warm on the whole and I’ve mostly had excellent upgrades (including to this Castle Suite). We did have a bad experience in January when we stayed, as there were a lot of visitors from Glasgow who entirely ruined the lounge and spa experience – they were very noisy and rude in the lounge and didn’t wear masks at all. The spa and hydropool was so rammed with these folks that we could essentially not use any of the facilities at all. My advice is to not stay at the hotel at weekends when the cash rates are low, as it attracts a different kind of clientele. I have visited the hotel several times and this last stay was the worst experience, solely due to the different guest profile.
I should say the hotel treats elite guests very well and always has tried to give me a suite, when I’ve stayed as Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador. They are always forthcoming with 4pm checkout etc. I would definitely stay again.
FWIW I’ve had one stay at the Glasshouse and it didn’t go well. They attempted to deny me 4pm checkout when I checked in, saying it was subject to availability. The rooms are very odd as they have a massive glass window facing outwards, with no privacy from the terrace next to you (one would think they could use a big hedge or fence) – if you enjoy strangers seeing everything you do in your room, then it’s a great experience.
I recently stayed at the Kimpton, which has a better hard product than either hotel, especially as both the Sheraton and Glasshouse really need a refurb. Obviously, IHG elite benefits are non existent compared to Marriott Bonvoy, but the basic rooms are very decent and they have one of the best beds I have experienced in any hotel. The staff were lovely too. Baba offers excellent food. I would say that the Kimpton is the best hotel in Edinburgh.
Witchery secret garden is fabulous. The Witchery suites are pretty special too – although I hope they have had a refresh. Great location just a short walk from the castle
