JetBlue has announced that it has secured permanent slots at Heathrow, is adding a new Gatwick departure to New York and is improving the airport experience for customers in the United Kingdom.
“The U.S. – U.K. air corridor is among the busiest in the world and to effectively compete JetBlue is adding more flights across the North Atlantic, growing from just one daily flight last summer to five by this fall,” said Robin Hayes, chief executive officer, JetBlue. “And with permanent slots at Heathrow – the highest in-demand slots globally – we’re now positioned to provide long-term service at one of the busiest airports in the world. This is an incredible opportunity for a carrier like JetBlue as we introduce transatlantic travelers to our great fares and award-winning service.”

Heathrow
JetBlue has received permanent slots at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) for flights starting October 29, 2022. Previously it had been granted temporary slots as part of an initiative to use slots not being used due to the pandemic.
JetBlue operates from Heathrow’s newest terminal – Terminal 2.

Gatwick
JetBlue today also announced a third daily flight between New York City and London. Starting October 29, 2022, JetBlue will operate a second daily flight between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW). The new frequency will complement an existing daily flight between New York and Gatwick. Seats on all new Gatwick flights are on sale today.
JetBlue operates from the North Terminal, which is the nicer of the two terminals in my opinion.

Speedier Security
JetBlue today also announced a better airport experience at both Gatwick and Heathrow with fast track security screening now available for Mint® customers, Mosaic customers and Mosaic companions travelling on the same reservation, customers who have purchased a Blue Extra fare and for customers who have purchased an Even More® Space seat.
Business class
JetBlue flights between the U.S. and London are operated using the Airbus A321LR aircraft with 24 Mint suites and 114 core seats. It also features the Mint Studio which is a much bigger suite at the front with room for a companion to dine with you.
JetBlue is currently the only airline to offer unlimited, free high-speed wi-fi on flights between the U.S. and the U.K. Additionally, customers have access to a selection of live TV channels – focused on news and sports.
Booking – prices from £1780
For an airline that claims to be low cost, their pricing for most of the year at the moment is crazy – £4000+ return for much of the year. However, there are a couple of decent fares of around £1780 which are available on select days in November and December. Don’t forget you can book reward flights on JetBlue with Emirates miles and Emirates are a transfer partner of American Express.

BA’s move to T8 at JFK
British Airways has started scheduling their flights from Terminal 8 at New York’s JFK airport. Despite a fairly recent fresh of their lounges in Terminal & where they currently are, they plan to move into Terminal 8 to co-locate with American Airlines later this year.
They are planning to move with an initial trial of two flights which seems sensible.
- On 17 November 2022, BA183, which is the last flight to JFK that day, will arrive at Terminal 8.
- On 18 November 2022, the first BA flight of the day to London Heathrow, BA178, will depart from Terminal 8.
- From 1 December 2022, all BA flights to and from London from New York JFK will operate at Terminal 8.
There will be 5 new widebody gates, four new widebody hardstand parking positions, an enhanced baggage handling system, new customer amenities and expanded premium passenger offerings — including approximately 130,000 square feet of new and renovated terminal space.
As customers arrive at Terminal 8, a co-branded premium check-in area providing personalized, concierge-style service for top-tier guests will replace American’s former Flagship First Check-In space. There will also be an exclusive new check-in space for eligible business customers.
Once through security, three distinctive lounges combining the best of both brands will provide the preflight experience for select guests based on cabin of travel and loyalty program status. The expanded premium lounge offerings will incorporate seating for approximately 1,000 of American and British Airways’ customers. I would expect those to be similar to today, Business Class, First and Concorde Room/First Flagship dining.
The most exclusive lounge will have an all-new champagne bar, fireside lounge and a la carte dining room, which takes American’s Flagship First Dining into a more immersive experience. This is likely to be for those who hold Gold Guest List and are travelling in First Class.

Who in their right mind would launch a new terminal at jfk for last flight of the day ? If pax on thet go to wrong terminal they’re screwed for time once error occurs. Thoughtless
I believe the 183 is the last flight TO New York, so passengers would be disembarking at T8 with the aircraft overnighting to become the 178 daylight flight back.
Chosing that rotation seems to make sense. Having experienced it personally, if the 183 runs late it has to go to another terminal as T7 immigration closes sometime around 10pm. (I think we were only 1 hour late) And no doubt there will be savings if they don’t need to open lounges etc. up, and have staff on duty for just one morning departure. All that can be absorbed in to the T8 operation.
I imagine some of the thinking is also to use the last flight of the day as a ‘dry run’ / practice for processing BA pax so they have a chance to iron out any gremlins overnight.
Admittedly not a thrilling thought for those on the flight but, typically at least, CBP / US Gov have a better track record on fixing things in short order as opposed to the Border Farce / UK Gov IT. Whom I’m convinced share the same ethos on technologies as BA IT as-in 8ts rarely done right and no one’s a clue how to fix the thing
JetBlue business class fares are hardly different to the other airlines so don’t in reality offer anything. Try Aer Lingus fares from Dublin, but making your own way from UK, e.g. on Ryanair. Saves hundreds of pounds.
However the experience on Jet Blue is far superior to Aer Lingus particularly in the Mint Studio. Hopefully I will be reviewing both soon.
JFK terminal 8 will have “four new widebody hardstand parking positions.” Does that mean they’ll be putting passengers on busses? If so, I don’t think New Yorkers (in particular) are going to be happy…
No it just means there will be 4 new stands for aircraft as obviously they will need more stands.
Thanks Michelle — I feel much better!
