More routes for Finnair’s new business class
I have flown Finnair’s new business class a number of times and think it is a great product. My latest review to New York on the A330 is here. It is interesting how it can be a bit divisive as some people can’t seem to get the concept of it not reclining (you recline or however you want to sit, plus you also get a huge flat bed. To me, it is exactly the same as lounging on your sofa, which we all manage to do every evening!
From 1 August, the Nordic carrier will introduce its new cabins on its Helsinki to Tokyo-Narita route (it is already on Tokyo-Haneda).
Customers on Finnair’s route to Seoul will also get the new experience from 1 September, while Osaka will get Finnair’s new cabin from 13 September.
In the US, Finnair plans to fly customers between Helsinki and Los Angeles in its new cabins from 1 August. Los Angeles is the final American city on Finnair’s network to experience its new long-haul cabins, with customers flying to Chicago, Dallas, Miami, New York JFK and Seattle already having the innovative cabin concept.
All Gatwick strikes off
Easyjet ground workers from DHL had already called off their strike at Gatwick after the workers voted to accept a 15 per cent pay deal, but now the remaining industrial action that would have affected other airlines, including BA, has also been called off.
ASC workers voted in favour of a double-digit pay rise, while workers at Menzies voted in favour of a 13 percent increase for ground handling staff and a 17 percent increase for the lowest paid staff, as well as enhancements to annual leave and sick pay.
10% off at Club Aspire lounge at Heathrow T5
Club Aspire at Heathrow Terminal 5 is offering 10% off pre-paid visits. I reviewed the lounge here pre-Covid but visited the T3 one a couple of months ago. The food is generally pretty good in the lounge, with a good choice on the buffet. However, the drinks selection is a little cheap and cheerful compared to an airline lounge. Aspire lounges look modern and clean, but all too often they are very busy, which can make it less relaxing. I personally prefer the Plaza Premium lounge at T5, though there is less choice of food.
The Club Aspire T5 has:
- Complimentary food and drinks
- Runway views
- Comfortable seating
- Wi-Fi
- Digital newspapers and magazines
- Shower facilities – available for an additional fee – you can now add this to your booking
- Charging points
However, if you do fancy it, there is a special offer for Club Aspire at T5.
For a limited time only, you can book your next Heathrow Terminal 5 Club Aspire lounge visit with 10% off. To get 10% off T5 bookings, enter CLUBASPT510 at the checkout on the website. The offer ends at midnight on the 31st July 2023.
You can purchase both two and three-hour lounge visits with the code via No1Lounges.com.

Michele, any ideas for reasonably priced biz fares to Japan?
Prices are very high at the moment. I would expect to pay at least £2200 on an ex EU on a sale fare. I have published a couple of Japan fares in the last fares round ups I think.
Depending on how much time you have and how many stops you want to make, it could be worth searching fares to South Korea and adding a separate return to Japan. Seoul to Tokyo is about 90 minutes in the air, even less to Osaka. Thanks to a TLFL fare article last Summer, we booked Finnair from Heathrow to Seoul via Helsinki for £1400 return in Business (440 tier points) and added a JAL return to Tokyo for under £200. We spent 5 days in Seoul and this worked out really well as a two centre trip. That said, the Finnar flights were non-refundable and Japan was closed to overseas travel at the time, so those prices might not come round again any time soon. Good luck with your trip!
Apparently the 2nd BA ground staff strike by GGS has not been called off yet: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66324951
