Virgin Hotels Glasgow now open
Virgin Hotels Glasgow has finally opened, a bit later than planned. Virgin Hotels views itself as a lifestyle brand. They remind me of a cheaper version of EDITION hotels with modern rooms and a large focus on food and drink outlets.
The hotel is set upon the banks of the River Clyde and close to Central Station, features a prime location ideal for exploring the city. The hotel has the usual Virgin Hotels’ Chamber design and an array of modern dining and drinking venues.
The Chambers rooms feature wood-sliding doors that separate the sleep and relaxation lounge from the dressing area in every room, giving guests optimum privacy. The dressing room features a stand-alone vanity unit with a mounted illuminated mirror, and the lounge itself has a Virgin Hotels’ patented and ergonomic bed with a channel-tufted headboard; Hypnos™ mattress; a red SMEG® mini-fridge stocked with local products; plugs in all the convenient places; an HDTV and a yoga mat.
At the heart of the hotel lies Commons Club, the flagship restaurant offering eclectic food and beverages. Highyard is located on the mezzanine level of Commons Club with views of River Clyde. The dining and entertainment venue features a retractable roof and the Highyard terrace has been fitted with two living walls.
More dining and drinking spaces will launch in the coming months, including Funny Library Coffee Shop and Rocks on Fox Street, a luxurious whisky bar set to have one of the finest whisky collections in Glasgow.
Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to announce the opening of Virgin Hotels Glasgow, our second European location. Glasgow holds a special place in my heart, as one of the first record shops we opened was on Union Street and my wife was born and brought up here. With Virgin Hotels Glasgow, we aimed to capture Glasgow’s unique spirit, offering visitors and locals an unparalleled experience. The hotel’s design truly reflects this as well as the city’s rich history and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the hotel to enjoy all that we have to offer. Well done to the team for creating magic, yet again.”

Earn more Virgin points on hotels
Virgin Points recently changed the earning rate for Virgin Hotels. To earn Virgin points on the hotels you need to join their “The Know” loyalty club. If you are planning to stay at a Virgin Hotel, you should sign up anyway, as it gives a cheaper rate to members, allows you to personalise your stay and also offers upgrades.
You used to earn a flat 2000 points per stay. Now you will earn:
- 5 points per $1 at US hotels
- 7 points per £1 at UK hotels
Note that this only applies to the room rate, not any additional spending such as food and drink.
Full terms and conditions for the Virgin Red program can be found on Virgin’s official website.
