Qatar Airways has yet another promotion. Having had a look through some of the fares, there is nothing particularly exciting even on the ex EU fares compared to previous sales. However, the competition and extra QMiles may mean you decide to have a look anyway. You have to book your ticket by 19 September 2017 for travel from 15 September until 31 May 2018. The blackout dates (travel not allowed) are 15 December 2017 until 10 January 2018. Additional blackout dates apply in some countries.
The individual offers, promotions and competitions are:
- up to 15% off business and first class flights for 1 passenger
- up to 20% off when you buy 2, 4, 6 or 8 seats
- Double Q Miles when you book before 19 September 2017 for travel between 15 September 2017 and 31 May 2018. You will need to register for the offer by logging into your account.
- Complimentary one-night hotel stay at one of Doha’s four-star or five-star hotels when you add a stop in Doha for 12 or more hours to your onward or return journey with Qatar Airways.
- Daily competition for 100,000 Q Miles, Gold Qatar Privilege Tier for a year and Duty Free shopping vouchers
- Mega prize of 9 prizes of free flights for a year (one economy flight a month) and 1 prize of Platinum Privilege Club membership tier for a year
The best fares that I have found are:
- Auckland £2006
- Bangkok £1226
- Singapore £1516
- Hong Kong £1779
- Bangkok £1157
- Bangkok £1407

Qatar news
Cardiff
Qatar has announced the details of their flights from Cardiff. Traditionally new routes have good offers for the first few months. As prices vary from airport to airport on UK fares, it will be worth including Cardiff in your searches if it is within driving distance.
The Cardiff service is scheduled to start on 1 May 18. The good news is that it will be on the modern Boeing 787-8 aircraft on a daily basis
QR323 DOH 0115 – 0640 CWL B788
QR321 DOH 0725 – 1250 CWL B788
QR324 CWL 0810 – 1705 DOH B788
QR322 CWL 1555 – 0050+1 DOH B788
You can read my review of the Qatar B787 service here.
Helsinki aircraft change
The Helsinki-Doha route will change onto A330 aircraft. From 29 October 2017, Qatar will be operating Airbus A330-300 aircraft on a daily basis, replacing the B787-8. Selected dates may be operated by a B787-8 or A330-200.
This will either feature the B/E Diamond seat which you can see photos of in this review or a slightly older B/E MiniPod seat which is also lie flat. The layout is in 2-2-2 though, which is not great for aisle access. Given the choice, I would prefer the A350 or B787 seat if the prices are similar from elsewhere such as Oslo or Stockholm, but it would not be a deal breaker. I shall be flying on Qatar’s A330 in a few months time so I will write a full review then.
Have you flown on the A330 with Qatar recently? What did you think?

Hi. I think you’ll find that Qatar are replacing a A320 on the HEL route
Hi Steve. Do you mean they have been operating a A320 from there recently and are replacing it with an A330 from end of October? It’s showing a B787 during the start of October until 29th October when it switches to the A330.
They were using A320 when we passed through HEL in March with a morning flight and also again when we were there in July on a different day of the week with a late afternoon flight.
That makes sense. Qatar had filed to use a B787 for the winter originally but then changed it to an A330 on most flights. Bit of a shame if you booked it on the knowledge it was a b787.
