Triple Dip Avios at Heathrow
British Airways has launched a new way to collect Avios at Heathrow in addition to collecting Heathrow Rewards and converting them into Avios.
I have talked before about the Red by Dufry app and the discounts you can earn on Duty-Free in many different airports.
Red by Dufry is an app/loyalty scheme. Dufry is a global duty-free company that owns World Duty Free and Hudson (US) stores, amongst many others. You will find them in most major airports in the UK and worldwide (plus some cruise ships, train stations and ports), which makes the app worth using.
There are three levels of status with the app. Each one gives a slightly better discount on purchases, although the higher tiers have a higher minimum spend to get the discount. Airports give a set percentage of 5%, 7% and 10% for the silver, gold and platinum tiers respectively. You get silver when you sign up so can earn 5% on your Duty Free purchases straight away (except tobacco).
Up until now, you earned RED points, but they are not redeemable for anything; they just count towards your status. You get gold after spending €400 and platinum after spending €1000. The discount is not available on promotions, but you will still get the points towards the next status level.
There are currently two global benefits that RED by Dufry offers: discounts on car rental and free membership to Dragon Pass. Dragon Pass is like Priority Pass, and the benefit allows you to buy lounge access for $28 which is cheaper than you pay without it.
Another useful benefit is that you can use the app discounts in conjunction with collecting and spending Heathrow Rewards points.
However, you can’t use the RED discount with another discount, such as the Heathrow World Duty Free vouchers that sometimes appear.
Earn 1 Avios per £1 at Heathrow
British Airways has now announced that Executive Club Members spending in World Duty Free shops at London Heathrow can collect Avios on their purchases. You get one Avios per £1 spent in any World Duty Free shop across all of Heathrow’s terminals.
To start collecting, sign up to Red by Dufry, and enter your Executive Club details in the Red by Dufry app.
Avios will be awarded within 72 hours of each eligible purchase, and a bonus 250 Avios is available on the first transaction. You can also use your British Airways American Express card to pay for your purchase, collecting even more Avios.
Etihad announce Air France/KLM partnership
Air France-KLM Group and Etihad Airways have announced a new partnership between their loyalty programmes.
Now members of Flying Blue, Air France and KLM’s loyalty programme, and members of Etihad Guest will be able to earn and redeem Miles in either loyalty programme when flying on Air France, KLM or Etihad. Reciprocal benefits for elite members will be announced soon.
This certainly makes Etihad more attractive to use since they are not currently part of an alliance and have limited miles partners.
Air France currently operates daily flights between Paris – Charles de Gaulle and Abu Dhabi International Airport, while Etihad currently operates daily flights to both Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol from Abu Dhabi International Airport.
