50% off Priority Pass
I had got fed up with Groupon and stopped using it until a mytaxi promotion caught my eye. Although Groupon are back to bombarding me with emails about total rubbish like Hollywood waxings at 75% off (like any sane person would go to an unknown cheap salon to have their nether regions waxed), there has been the odd bargain.
Today Groupon has 50% off a Priority Pass lounge access membership for £6. You can join Groupon for free here if you are not a member. If you get fed up with the emails, just unsubscribe as I shall hopefully cover any decent travel deals here.
Here are the offer details:
Choose from three options
- £6 for a 50% discount on Standard Membership
- £6 for a 50% discount on Standard Membership with the first visit included
- £6 for a 25% discount on Standard Plus Membership with 10 visits included
Once you have made your Groupon purchase you then need to go to the Priority Pass website to enter the voucher and buy the required membership.

This costs £159 and you get 10 visits free, then they are £15. This would be £125.25 including the Groupon charge.
With all of them, you can buy additional guest visits at £15. You can find the details and purchase the Groupon deal here.
If you didn’t fancy the Groupon offer or want the Prestige level, there is also the Priority Pass 25th Anniversary offer. Priority Pass are offering a special discount of up to 25% off. If you don’t have status with an airline that allows you lounge access, this may be worth considering. You can find more details of the offer here.

airberlin ceases all long haul flights
airberlin had been a good source of cheap Avios redemptions to the US along with a decent business class product. Unfortunately, Air Berlin started bankruptcy proceedings in August after losing its cash lifeline from its biggest shareholder, Etihad Airways.
British Airways parent IAG put in a bid for part of airberlin but expects it will go mainly to Lufthansa. Easyjet and Lufthansa have both made the short list of airlines being considered. airberlin said its creditors had picked Lufthansa and easyJet as possible buyers and would negotiate with them until Oct 12.
airberlin yesterday announced that they will cease their long-haul flights by 15 October 2017, as their aircraft leasing companies are gradually withdrawing their Airbus A330 jets. The connection between Dusseldorf and Los Angeles will be discontinued on 25 September 2017. Further cancellations will follow on 16 October 2017.
On 29 September 2017, airberlin will also discontinue services between Hamburg and Munich and between Cologne/Bonn and Munich. airberlin also will not operate to the Caribbean from Dusseldorf from 25 September 2017. This means that from that date, flights to Curaçao (the Netherlands Antilles), Cancun (Mexico), Havana and Varadero (Cuba), as well as Punta Cana and Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), will be also cancelled.
The connections between Berlin and Abu Dhabi, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as from Dusseldorf to Boston and Orlando will also be cancelled from 25 September 2017.
What happens if you have a flight booked?
All airberlin passengers will be informed of the status of their booking. This will be in the form of either a cancellation confirmation or a rebooking confirmation. Passengers for the affected flights will be rebooked on alternative flights wherever possible. Whether or not your flight can be rebooked will depend on the availability of alternatives.
For passengers who booked their plane ticket directly with airberlin, the following applies: for tickets purchased after the insolvency filing on 15 August 2017, they will reimburse the purchase price free of charge. Passengers affected may submit any additional costs incurred via the website www.airberlin.com/complaint. Tickets that were booked before the insolvency filing cannot currently be reimbursed due to insolvency regulations.
