Avios: new transfers from Choice hotels
Although you may associate Choice Hotels with some of the cheaper hotel brands in the US such as Quality Inn you may be surprised to see that they also operate all the Radisson hotels as well. They also tend to have a lot of hotels in Scandinavia. Here is the full list of brands:
Choice Hotels will now allow you to convert their loyalty points into Avios via the BA Executive Club. Exchange rates start at 5,000 points for 1,000 Avios, so this could be a handy way to use up a small number of points. You will need to collect the points via their Choice Privileges account when you stay.
If you are not a member there is a bonus offer for 250 bonus points when you join and sign up to get the Latest Offers.
Here is how to redeem for Avios:
- Step 1: Click Exchange Now. If you’re not logged in, you’ll have to log into your Choice Privileges account.
- Step 2: To add your airline’s loyalty program, click Add Programs, choose the airline and click Save Program.
- Step 3: To link this loyalty program, click Link, enter your loyalty program info and click Link Program.
- Step 4: Once your loyalty program is linked, click Make an Exchange. Use the slider to select the number of Choice Privileges points you want to exchange. To complete the exchange, click Exchange.
Avios: Qantas/Emirates codeshare changes to Avios and tier points
It was one of the great quirks of the BA Executive Club that you could earn tier points and Avios when flying Emirates, proving it was booked on a Qantas codeshare. Now, according to reports from Flyertalk and a change in wording on the BA website, it would appear that this has been withdrawn at some point this year. It is not clear exactly when it was withdrawn, so if you haven’t submitted a claim for a past flight, it could be worth a try, as other posters on Flyertalk were being awarded the correct TP and Avios in retrospect.
Here is the new wording on ba.com
Previously it said
“Flights booked under the Qantas code (QF) operated by a non-oneworld airline will earn Avios and Tier Points unless operated by Jetstar in a class other than L class.”
