Amazing UK oneworld Australia fare from £2400 return
Fares to Australia have been crazy since Covid, but finally there is a fantastic offer for business class flying on Cathay Pacific (thanks to Luxury Flight Club) Cathay Pacific has always been one of my favorite airlines for its consistency of excellent service both onboard and their customer service. I was once in business class and our luggage missed our connection to Sydney. When we landed someone was at the gate to tell us about it and that it would arrive later the same day. Not sure many airlines would give you this service!
You can read our Cathay Pacific reviews here.
Being part of oneworld, you can obviously earn BA tier points and Avios on Cathay Pacific too.
If you’re booking for more than one passenger, use the code SAVE200GB to save an extra £100 per person.
Here are the fares details:
From Manchester:
- Melbourne £2,393
- Sydney £2,404
- Brisbane £2,406
You can also do open jaw. You must book by 12 November and travel April to June 2025. I can currently see excellent availability for this fare but it won’t last long!
You can book with Cathay Pacific here or search for the cheapest online travel agent here.
9 Avios per £1 for Avis
One of my top tips when you start collecting Avios is to sign up for all the Avios accounts even if you just plan on being a member of BA. That’s because you can transfer easily between Iberia, Aer Lingus and Qatar with your BA account and so can take advantage of the different offers across the airlines. Aer Lingus have a very generous offer on Avis rentals with 9 Avios per £1 compared to the normal 5 Avios per £1 through BA.
To qualify for the offer, you will need an Aer Lingus Aer Club account and book a group C car for 3 days or more by 31 October 2024 for rentals until 15 December 2024. 7. The offer is v lid for all participating rental locations in Europe, The Middle East, Africa and North America.
You can find the offer page here.
New US Avios destination with Aer Lingus
Aer Lingus are also usually much cheaper in terms of taxis and charges when you redeem Avios flights with them. For example for my flights to Denver a few months ago, it only cost me £277 in taxes in business class and I used my companion voucher to halve the Avios.
Indianapolis has now been announced as their latest destination from Dublin, with a four-week service starting on 4 May 2025. The new route will be the only nonstop service between Europe and the capital of the state of Indiana.
Flights are now on sale at Aer Lingus.

While agreeing with Michele on CX’s excellent service, don’t assume that you will get BA Tier Points and Avios on all CX J class fares. Not long ago I flew to Japan from Manchester with CX in J class, saving £1,500 on CX’s fare from LHR. On my return I learnt that I earned Avios and Tier Points for one leg, but NO Avios and NO Tier Points for the other leg because of the fare bucket that I was in (which of course isn’t always clear when booking). The most ridiculous aspect of this was that the fare concerned – I think it was Q – would earn the same number of Tier Points as any J class flight with QR, but absolutely nothing from CX. So if you need the Tier Points read the small print carefully.
You probably booked a “P Class” business class fare at the time which was unfortunately an oddity than anything. This didn’t use to earn any Avios or TPs. However this is no longer the case and as such apart from reward flights in booking class “U”, all CX marketed business fares earn Avios and TPs towards BAEC as will the above “I class” fare mentioned in the article.
You have used a photo from Cathay Pacific First class (777-300ER), that’s not business class.
Really not sure what you mean… 😂
