On Thursday we held our first ever TLFL reader party, which was actually also a week before our third birthday. The party was held at The Wigmore which is the upmarket pub located at The Langham hotel in London.
The event had sold out in less than a day so we had a full house! It was lovely that so many readers made the journey from many parts of the south east to come and meet Paul, Claudio and I for a drink or two!
The feedback we had from readers was phenomenal – the chance to meet like-minded people for an evening of fizz and some excellent prizes went down well. Plus those awesome cheese toasties by Michel Roux Junior!
We also had representatives from British Airways, SeatSpy and Vietnam Airlines for everyone to pick their brains or talk to them about their travel experiences. Vietnam Airlines managed to convert quite a few readers into Skyteam members by offering 2000 miles if you signed up for their Lotus Miles loyalty program on the night.
Then came the prize draw where we gave away some fantastic prizes.

Cookery class for two at The Langham’s new cookery school, Sauce
Caroline gets to choose from one of Sauce’s ‘Building Block’ courses for two people:
- Master the Pasta
- Knife Skills
- Stocks & Sauces
- Pastry foundations – which are:
- Chouxlicious
- Scones & Jam
- Simply Tarts
If you fancy improving your skills in the kitchen or have a foodie loved one who would enjoy learning more then you may like to know more. I love to cook so I’m very tempted by the thought of a Masterclass with Michel Roux Jr – if only to get the recipe for the toastie!!
Sauce by The Langham is the fun new cookery school in the central London hotel, is for you! The school opened this summer in the luxury hotel in the heart of the West End and offers a dream kitchen, combining a stylish rustic interior with state of the art equipment.
Lessons are delivered by the Langham’s brigade of chefs, who share their trade secrets and insights. ‘Building Block’ classes are ideal for the enthusiastic amateur, while ‘Masterclasses’ take the skills up a level. But all are relaxed and informal, ending with feasting on the fruits of your labours, with a glass or two of wine of course!
Real gourmets might like to enjoy a Masterclass with two Michelin-starred Michel Roux Jr, who oversees the dining at The Langham, or learn from one the other award-winning chefs.

The party continued until the early hours and there were a few sore heads this morning! We will definitely be holding another reader event and have a bigger venue so everyone that wants to come can get a ticket. If you have any suggestions of timings, venues or locations for the next event let us know on social media or on the comments below.
Special thanks to Alex who played the role of welcome host/bouncer for the night and of course the wonderful staff at The Wigmore at Langham who kept up with all the drink orders and looked after us so well. (Mierzwa, Marlin and Barney who were serving us, Andrew, Alex, Jack and Jordan behind the bar and Pshemeck on the door.)

Looks like a good night, maybe hold the next event somewhere more accessible from all corners of the UK. Maybe Manchester or Birmingham especially if running mid week.
Thanks Chris.
As a reader of TLFL , I read every morning. I would love to attended the party but sadly all the tickets had sold out very quickly .
I am not surprised, it looked like a very good party.
Maybe next time I might be lucky to get two tickets.
It would be great if the next party could be on a Saturday night as so many people work during the week and have to get up the following morning for another day at work.
If it were to be held on a Saturday evening then we possibly could book into a hotel for the night and make it a night away break which would be lovely.
One can then really make a night of it and relax knowing they can have a lye in the next morning.
Kind regards.
Frank
Thanks Frank. It’s always tricky timing wise as some people prefer an after work do and some prefer a weekend. We will see what the consensus is.
Well worth the mad dash from work. Great evening with some excellent conversations and tips… thanks for taking the time to arrange and set me off on the best route for our rather complicated big trip next year. Looking forward to the next one already!
A great evening spent in really good company. I need to remember to eat as well as drink next time…
Was gutted I couldn’t get a ticket for the inaugural party but it looks like y’all had an amazing time. Here’s to it becoming an annual event and hopefully getting in there quick enough next time.
We are hoping to do it at least twice a year.
