BA returns to Sydney from March 22
It has been confirmed that British Airways will restart its Sydney via Singapore from 27 March 27 2022 after nearly two years. At the same time, the current standalone Singapore flight will be suspended. This still means there will be one flight a day to Singapore, but that it will carry on to Sydney as well. BA15 will depart London at 9.25pm and stop for 1 hour 40 minutes in Singapore so passengers for Singapore can disembark before continuing on to Sydney to arrive at 6.10am.
The flights will be on a B787-9 which means it will have the old-style Club World seats.
Hong Kong bans UK flights
Hong Kong has banned incoming flights from the UK for two weeks over a small outbreak of Omicron. Also, travellers who have visited the UK (or 7 other designated countries) within the past 21 days will not be permitted to enter Hong Kong or transit through Hong Kong International Airport. Hong Kong has banned incoming flights from eight countries – including the UK and United States as well as tightening local restrictions. Previously they had banned many flights including cargo over Christmas after two aircrew allegedly disobeyed quarantine and were found to have Omicron.
Barbados entry protocol changes – Rapid PCR tests accepted
Effective January 7, 2022, travellers are permitted to travel to Barbados with a valid negative Rapid COVID-19 PCR test result done within 1 day prior to arrival in Barbados OR a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test result done within 3 days prior to arrival.
Accepted tests include tests which were taken at an accredited or recognized laboratory by a healthcare provider via a nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal sample (or both). LAMP tests, self-administered tests or home kits and tests using saliva samples will not be accepted. Although it is a shorter time span to get it done, getting a rapid PCR test is fairly simple with results back in 3 hours and means less hassle for many people travelling. Results come in very quickly meaning less issues should something go wrong with the test and it needs to be repeated. Collinson offers a rapid PCR at various locations as do Express Test at Heathrow and in London from £119.
You can read the full official protocols here.

Do you think the restart to SYD on 27 March suggests that BA is confident international tourists will be permitted entry to Australia at that point? After four cancellations and re-bookings since 2020, we are booked onto BA15 for the 27 March…fingers crossed…
No I don’t believe they are 100% certain. Currently Australia have been saying April but I haven’t seen a firm date so it fits with the timeline but given the Omicron wave it could change. Fingers crossed for you
Wow Michele, that’s a massive capacity reduction on SIN: Daily A380 and B777 down to a shared B787 with SYD. That’s got to have major implications for reward seats and until yesterday, a B777 and a B787 is still showing on SIN for November onwards as I’m trying to get F availability.
I suspect by November it should be back to normal hopefully. I’m guessing that the complications associated with the vaccinated travel lane are putting the majority of people off.
“ The flights will be on a B787-9 which means it will have the old-style Club World seats. ”
I suppose it’s a marginal improvement – from an old bucket 777 to a newer 787 with the same old seat ????
