Holiday and weekend break inspiration with Avios
London – Cancun
Mexico is a very popular holiday hotspot this year. Cancun can bring up images of American partying, but there are plenty of quieter, luxury resorts along the coast to enjoy if partying is not your thing. These can be excellent value. There is plenty to explore nearby, with Chichen Itza Mayan ruins, several natural water parks with lazy rivers, cenotes, and snorkeling with turtles at Akumal.
Quite surprisingly, summer availability on this route is still decent – July, August and September have a fair few days with 4 or 5 Business Class seats.
London – Fuerteventura
If you’re on the lookout for a short-haul winter/spring trip then check this route. Weather is warm enough for the beach most of the year so it makes a good winter break that is not too far away. There’s lovely Economy availability in November 2024, right through to April 2025. Lots of dates have 6 seats to book with Avios.
London – Gothenburg
If last weekend’s Eurovision has got you thinking about booking an Avios trip to Sweden, you’ll be happy to hear there’s loads of Economy reward seat availability on this route from June, through to April 2025 – including summer. There’s an abundance of dates with 6 Economy seats to book with your points.
London – Grand Cayman
Another route with some good spots for a summer/autumn Avios adventure. At the moment, there are quite a few days across August, September and October with between 3 and 5 Business Class seats available.
London – Munich
Munich really took me by surprise when I visited, and I loved the pretty old town. You can read about my trip here. There’s a fabulous steak of Economy availability across 2024, up to May 2025. We’re talking most days having between 4 and 6 seats to book. It’s a little patchier in June and August, but even in the busiest periods there are still dates with 2 Economy seats.
London – Saint Lucia
There may just have been a recent release of reward seats on this one. At the moment, there’s a lot of Business Class availability between July and September – with loads of dates showing between 3 and 6 Business Class Avios seats to book.
London – Orlando
Given this is the prime “Disney World route” for UK Avios collectors, it can be hard to get seats without setting an RFF Alert, but if you look right now, you’ll spot loads of Business Class availability from June to December. Lots of dates are showing 3 or 4 seats. If you’re happy to fly Premium Economy, you’ll find great availability between now and October, as March and April 2025.
London – Valencia
If you are looking for a new Spanish city break, Valencia gets my vote. There is a lively dining and bar scene as well as an old town to wander around sampling some tapas. It is also not far from the beach if you want to soak up some sun and the coastline has plenty of pretty towns to explore nearby.
]There’s a lovely streak of Economy availability from September 2024, up to April 2025. Most days have between 2 and 6 seats to book.

I would add that forward planning is key – I spend 500,000++ a year on avios flights and most of them are booked a year in advance. However the best spend is on last minute business class flights to see my kids at Uni in Newcastle where I can nab flights for £50 return instead of paying £500 or more…
Totally agree on using for last minute or peak time short haul. Prices can be £800+ now which is crazy.
Great tip James! I totally agree. At Reward Flight Finder we always recommend searching well in advance, and setting up Alerts for seats up to a year in advance – particularly for the most popular routes such as Singapore, Tokyo etc. It can be very difficult to get seats on those routes without forward planning!
