EDIT: As predicted…..the fare is now no longer available
This offer is unlikely to last more than a few hours so if you are interested you will need to be quick off the mark! The fare is from Amsterdam. Whilst, not one of my favourite airports it is easy and cheap to get to and you can do easy “back to backs” here. These are not for the faint-hearted as they involve getting off the plane and getting straight back on it again. This means it mitigates some of the risks of missing the start of your ex EU fare. If the inbound is late so will be the first flight of your ex EU. Amsterdam is particularly good for this as you don’t have to go through a transfer procedure. Just stay at the gate and get back on.
You can fly on either American Airlines or British Airways for the transatlantic portion. If you can’t decide which to go for you can read all my review here. Of course, you could even upgrade using Avios or a GUF voucher to First on British Airways.
The fares start from:
- New York £907
- Boston £882
- Washington
- San Francisco £934
- Los Angeles £934
- Phoenix £932
- Las Vegas £934
- San Diego ££99£9
- Miami £951
- Orlando £962
- Chicago £890
- Toronto £832
- Nashville £949
- New Orleans £949
- Portland £976
- Seattle £966
- Vancouver £1001
- Anchorage £1030
There are also most other major US cities in the same sort of price bracket.
The rules:
- Travel:
- permitted Mon through Thu.
- permitted 14 Apr 19 through 30 May 19 for each transatlantic sector
- or – permitted 25 Jun 19 through 6 Sep 19
- Reservations 28 days in advance
- Minimum stay 6 days or a Saturday night
- Maximum stay 12 months
- Stopovers not permitted
- Transfers are permitted
- Book by 3 April 2019 ( very unlikely to last this long)
- Non-refundable or changeable
Tier points
To maximise the tier points you should route via the East coast and try to get onto one of the AA transcontinental services which have flat beds dfrom New York JFK to Los Angeles or San Francisco. You can read my review here. The best routeing would be AMS-LHR-JFK-LAX-Anchorage (ANC). This would get you 920 tier points.
Booking
Simple itineraries can be booked via British Airways directly.

Hi Michele re AMS. I am doing CPT in December starting in AMS. Can you get off the plane and wait in the same area or do you have to go via security and back through. I am doing back to back at both ends of the trip
No you can stay at the gate.
Brilliant thanks for your help
Great Tip thanks Michele – priced AMS – LHR – JFK – LAX – ANC – LAX – JFK – LHR – AMS up at £1040. That is quite ridiculous.
Just booked AMS to IAD for £950. I see that the fare has now been pulled. Hopefully this is not a mistake fare and BA refuse to honour it. I will wait before booking car and accommodation
It is very likely a mistake fare – though I suspect they will honour it. Well done for booking – I asked for permission before booking AMS-LCY-(BabyBus)-JFK-(Cathay)-YVR-PHX-JFK-LHR-AMS for £1,100 and it was pulled by the time permission was received.
In skiing there is a term “no friends on a powder day” – need something similar for Error Fare days
