Finnair up to 50% off Avios Discount
There have been a lot of loyalty scheme buy points deals around this month, but Finnair seem to have come up trumps with one of the most lucrative offers from the recent batch. If you purchase Avios through Finnair Plus, you can get up to a 50% discount, the link to purchase is here. See below for the scale, you must purchase at least 5,000 for any discount.
Purchased Avios | Discount Rate |
---|---|
5,000–19,000 | 35% |
20,000–49,000 | 40% |
50,000–74,000 | 45% |
75,000–200,000 | 50% |
The Avios will be credited to your Finnair account, but you can transfer them to your British Airways account by linking to two accounts. If you haven’t already, you can link them here.
The maximum Avios you can purchase via Finnair is 200,000 annually, but that doesn’t stop you from also purchasing Avios through British Airways. The discount is available now until 20th November 2024.
Before the discount, the more points you buy, the better value it is per point, at the top end of this discount with 50% off, it costs just 0.88p, which is a great purchase price for Avios.
Much like most of the other loyalty scheme points bonuses, we recommend only making a purchase like this if you have a specific redemption in mind, that way you can work out the difference between the cash price and points spend in real time.
British Airways to Cancel Bahrain and Kuwait Routes
British Airways is set to indefinitely axe flights to Bahrain and Kuwait from the end of March 2025. Rolls Royce supply issues seem to be the culprit, which was the reason cited for the last-minute cancellation of Kuala Lumpur flights last month.
The current guidelines advise that if your flight is between 1st January and 31st December 2025 you can move onto any date with British Airways that has availability for the same class cabin or lower. They have also provided the option to move to a Qatar flight that is within 14 days on either side of your existing flight. I’m unsure why they are offering passengers between January and March the option to move their flights when in theory they should still be operating during those dates. You can only claim a refund if your flight has been officially cancelled.
British Airways have also this week cancelled flights to Dallas Fort-Worth for Summer 2025 and dropped one daily flight to Miami for the same period. Customers on these flights will be automatically transferred to American Airlines who have taken up these slots although your rights to a refund and to reschedule to different flight days and times remains.
IHG 100% Points Bonus
Another one! It is not uncommon at all for IHG to offer points bonuses, and they have already done a 100% bonus this year. However, as we have said, if you have your eye on a specific redemption, then now is the time to buy.
The minimum purchase is 5,000 to receive the bonus, and you can purchase up to 200,000 points. The offer is running until 16th November 2024.
I won’t go into the benefits of using points over cash for specific bookings because I have spoken about that a couple of times already this week but I do feel like not too many people check both when making a hotel booking, which you definitely should.

It would be helpful if you could include the cost of purchasing Avios from the Finnair offer and evaluate whether it’s a worthwhile. I’d rather not set up a Finnair account just to find out and if the cost equates to 1p per point or more then there is no real value.
Hi Christian, before the discount, the prices are staggered so it is difficult to include the cost for every scenario, but the top end of the promotion values the price per point at 0.88p. I’ve included that in the article now, thank you.
Below 50,000 costs more than 1p, 50,000-74,000 costs 1p, 75,000-99,000 costs .92p and 100,000-200,000 costs 88p. Based on today’s Visa exchange rate Eur to GBP.
