British Airways and Aer Lingus changes
For summer schedules next year BA will be moving back a number of long haul routes to Heathrow’s Terminal 3 from T5. This is generally good news unless you wanted to use the Concorde Room since T3 has plenty of lounges to choose from, which are superior to the BA Galleries lounges at T5.
The routes will move at the start of the summer season at the end of March 2023.

- Austin
- Bahrain
- Bermuda
- Grand Cayman
- Las Vegas
- Nairobi
- Nassau
- Providenciales
- San Diego
- Sao Paulo
- Vancouver
With Aer Lingus ending their service to Belfast and closing its base there at the end of the month (citing Brexit as the reason) British Airways are expected to announce an increase in their frequencies to Belfast.

I previously wrote about BA’s franchise Sun Air starting British Airways flights to Billund from London City. It has now been announced they will also restart flights between Manchester and Billund in Southern Denmark on 31 October 2022. The five-times weekly service between Manchester Airport and Billund, is the home of the original Lego Land. Tickets are on sale now for Avios or cash.
BA and American appear to be on track to change terminals in December with BA moving in with American in Terminal 8 with brand new shared lounges. It is also now looking like Iberia may join them in the new terminal. Hopefully, I will get over to New York when the move takes place to give a review of all the new lounge and check-in facilities.
Virgin Atlantic schedule changes for summer 23
Virgin Atlantic has made a number of changes to their schedules for summer 2023. With flights on points difficult to find it’s worth having a look at where they have increased frequency in case more reward seats have been added.
- Manchester – Orlando – reduced from 12x to 7x weekly
- Manchester-Atlanta will be paused during April and May 2023
- Belfast International removed completely from the schedule for Summer 23
- London Heathrow –
- Orlando – reduced to 12x weekly flights
- Antigua – reduced to 1x weekly from 11 May 2023
- Shanghai – now resumes 1 May 2023
- Tobago suspended from 11 January 2023
- Reduce Antigua to 1x weekly from 11 May to 28 October
- Increase Miami from 7x to 10x weekly flights
- Increase Austin from 4x to 7x weekly flights in May, June and September
- New York JFK will increase to six-times-daily during April
- Islamabad increases to three services
- Lahore increases to four services a week.
50% off Avios part and full pay cash tickets flash sale
The offer gives you 50% off the Avios towards a flight via Aer Lingus’s Aer Club. You can easily transfer Avios between BA and Aer Lingus using Combine My Avios. So even if you are not currently an Aer Club member or do not have any Avios in your Aer Club account, you can easily transfer them over once you join.
Aer Lingus flights have significantly less tax than a BA flight, and you can use Avios to fully pay for a cash flight meaning there does not need to be Avios availability. With a decent long haul business class seat, it’s worth considering.
To use the promotion just log into your account and select your flights on aerlingus.com not Avios.com. Choose your preferred Avios amount from the options displayed on the payment page. The Avios amounts shown will automatically include the 50% saving.
The 50% off discount will be applied directly on the portion of the flight paid with Avios, either for a partial or full redemption.

Not sure what is happening with BA and the terminal changes. Our flight from Phoenix next April was changed to T3. The following day I received another e mail to say it was back to T5. So who knows .
That’s interesting to know. I’ll take that one off. Always used to be T3.
Flew back from Johannesburg on BA’s A350 last week and the crew blocked off the forward washroom for the duration of the flight, citing lack of galley space. This left 2 toilets for the entire business class, one of which ran out of water. Inconvenient!
When will you be able to earn tier points with Aer Lingus that are just the same as BA tier points as they are partners?
You can earn TPs on any Aer Lingus flights you buy through BA that are a codeshare. It’s expected that you should soon be able to earn TP on transatlantic flights with them but I have not seen this confirmed yet.
