British Airways returns to Abu Dhabi
British Airways has announced that it will launch daily flights to Abu Dhabi next year, following a four-year hiatus. These are now available to book on cash and Avios with the route starting on 20 April 2024 year-round.
The new flight will be operated by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft in summer 2024 which means old Club World unless they manage to refit any and out them on the route. Refits are due to start for B787-8 and 787-9 end of this year/early next year. As yet we can’t see what the aircraft type for next winter will be.
To celebrate the launch, British Airways is offering return fares from £449 in World Traveller (economy) and £1,999 in Club World (business class), available to book before 12 November 2023. Executive Club Members will be able to purchase Reward Seats from £100 + 50,000 Avios.
This means that BA will be flying into the brand-new Abu Dhabi terminal that I wrote about here. As yet we do not have details of lounges, but once I know, I will give more details.
Even if you don’t want to stay in Abu Dhabi (although I really recommend a stay at the beautiful Jumeirah Saadiyat Island), it’s a handy place to fly onto somewhere like Oman which is where I flew from when I visited. It’s also only around 1 hour’s drive from Dubai.
Maureen Bannerman, Abu Dhabi Airports Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We’re delighted to welcome British Airways back to Abu Dhabi International Airport, adding to the growing list of leading carriers set to use Terminal A as their operational base in Abu Dhabi. A luxurious new gateway to Abu Dhabi, Terminal A will open to the public from November 1st, offering state-of-the-art facilities for both passengers and airlines.”
If you were interested in a BA Holiday to Abu Dhabi prices in May start from £2658pp based on two sharing a room with Club World flights.
More details on Topcashback partnership ending with British Airways Executive Club (Avios)
I previously wrote about the Topcashback partnership ending with Avios on 31 December. Here are some more details on how the end will be managed.
What’s the last date to withdraw my cashback as Avios?
You can still withdraw your cashback as Avios points until the 15th December.
What to do if you have cashback that can only be withdrawn as Avios points?
You can still withdraw your cashback as Avios points until the 15th December. If your cashback doesn’t become payable or you don’t withdraw it before this date, you can withdraw it via BACs, Paypal or Reward Wallet.
What about brands that only offer Avios points?
Only a handful of brands offer Avios, such as John Lewis, Apple Store and TK Maxx. The good news is that John Lewis & Partners are already offering cashback for you to payout however you wish. Topcashback is still in discussions with the other brands and hope they’ll continue to work with TCB after the partnership with British Airways Executive Club (Avios) ends.
