Fairmont Hotels to take over Luton Hoo
Funnily enough I was looking at staying at this hotel recently and then I saw that Fairmont are about to take over. Looking at the hotel it looks beautiful but in need of a big make over which it will now get.
Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa is to be redeveloped under the globally renowned Fairmont Hotels & Resorts brand by new owners Arora Group.
The hotel will join iconic Fairmont properties across the UK and Ireland, such as The Savoy, A Fairmont Managed Hotel, in London; Fairmont St Andrews in Scotland; Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel, in Ireland; and the Arora-owned Fairmont Windsor Park near historic Windsor.
Prior to taking on the Fairmont name, Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa will undergo a multi-million-pound redevelopment over the next few years, bringing the hotel to new levels of luxury.. Dating back to 1601, the estate spans 1,100 acres of land on the border of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Excellent transport links between St. Pancras and Luton Parkway railway stations mean the hotel is easily reachable from London or Cambridge and is obviously close to Luton airport.
Surinder Arora, Founder and Chairman of Arora Group, commented: “We are incredibly proud to bring the prestigious Fairmont brand once again to Arora’s portfolio of hotels. Over the last decade, our estate has grown significantly, and we are excited to have this historic hotel join our other flagship properties. Luton Hoo’s heritage is exceptional with guests such as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip spending part of their honeymoon there and Sir Winston Churchill giving his famous post World War II speech to a crowd of 110,000 people. Building on our existing expertise with the brand at Fairmont Windsor Park, we cannot wait to commence the redevelopment and bring this stunning hotel back to is full glory and potential.”

Birmingham Airport faces serious security delays
Around 100 security officers and terminal technicians employed by Birmingham Airport will begin continuous strike action from 18 July.
The Birmingham Airport workers are striking over pay after they say they have after faced two years of substantial pay cuts. Three quarters of the striking Birmingham Airport workers are security officers. According to Unite, last year, the workers received a pay rise of 2.8 per cent when RPI, was running at 13.8 per cent. This year, they have been offered 7.75 per cent and a one off £850 payment.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Birmingham Airport has returned to profitability but expects its low paid workers to swallow a real terms pay cut after successive attacks on their wages and terms and conditions. This is completely unacceptable at a time of rising living costs. Unite’s laser-like focus on jobs, pay and conditions means these workers will receive the full unflinching support of their union as they strike for a fair pay rise.”
The strikes will impact Birmingham Airport’s security and terminal maintenance operations leading to delays for carriers such as TUI, EasyJet, Wizz, Ryanair, Lufthansa and Emirates. Heathrow recently settles its dispute with Unite security staff with a new pay offer.
