Uber 1000 Avios bonus for Uber travel
As well as collecting 1 Avios per £1 spent on Uber rides in the UK, you can now get a special 1000 Avios bonus for using Uber’s new Travel service for booking trains and coaches. To get the bonus you need to book (not travel) before midnight on 16 May. There is no minimum spend, so even if you don’t plan to go somewhere, it could be a cheap way to “buy” some Avios.
You also get 10% back in Uber credits on any train, coach or Eurostar bookings before 30 June 2023. You get 180 days to use the Uber credits. You also still get 1 Avios per £1 spent on Uber Travel as well, so it is an easy way to earn Avios on trains, coaches and Eurostar with most services participating.
I have been experimenting with the Uber Travel options on the app and found that it does cover most journeys but there are a couple of things to be aware of. It is not very obvious, but you can use a Railcard or coachcard with Uber Travel. If you select the number of people it will then show a drop-down list of all the discounts available as well as being able to select the number of people (took me a while to find that!). The prices seem to be the same as you would find booking direct as well. The only drawback I have found so far is that I can’t find a way to get Railair coaches to appear, although National Express coaches to airports are bookable.
To take advantage of the offer, you need to link your BA Executive Club and Uber accounts. Then under the Rides Tab, click on Travel and book your trip.
10% bonus on Iberia gift cards
If you are planning to buy some Iberia flights, it could be worth buying some gift cards with the new offer which gives 10% off when you purchase by 8 May.
You can use the gift cards for up to 1 year from the date of purchase on Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum.
You can find the offer page here.
Air France stops Twitter support – will other airlines follow?
One of the quicker ways to contact airlines when you have an issue or question can be by using Twitter. As most readers will be aware, there have been a number of (mainly bad) changes made to the platform since Elon Musk took over. One of those changes is the cost for companies that use the platform c commercially to access the (API) feed to interact with customers. The first major airline, Air France, has now announced that it will no longer be offering support for customers on Twitter due to the price rises. They told Skift ” “Twitter’s recent change in access to its API has led us to adapt our commercial policy in terms of customer relations.”
So far, their partner KLM have not made any statement as to whether they will adopt the same policy, but usually they tend to align. It will be a real shame if other airlines no longer view Twitter as economically viable for providing support to customers. Hopefully, they may decide to use another method to fill the gap, such as messaging or online chat.

Uber app does not produce QR codes like Trainline does. A major weakness as it requires tickets to be printed / collected.
Uber app is missing a number of discount railcards including Club 50 web.
Also, prices for return journeys I looked at were simply double the cost of a single, eg Glasgow Central to Glasgow Prestwick AirportL: sgl £9,20 on Uber app and on Trainline.
Open return (without railcard): £18.40 (Uber app); £10.90 (Trainline); £8.70!!! (Trainline with Club 50 card)
Lots of improvement to be done here.
To be honest it’s always irritated me that companies have used Twitter to communicate with customers. What about people that don’t want and don’t have Twitter? If this means they move to a proper customer service platform that everybody can access then that’s a positive move
Two passengers. 3 different routes.
Without any Railcards = X
1 with, 1 without. = X
2 with. = X
And that’s with a disabled persons Railcard which unlike other cards isn’t subject to time restrictions for use ( I can use it anytime, any day and the discount still applies to me and one other person traveling with me)
Uber train fares don’t appear to give senior railcard discount even when specifying you’re a senior?
There are some railcards missing and I think you’d have to select the railcard rather than senior. There also seem to be some situations where it is not deducting railcard discounts.
Just did a booking – price dropped when I remembered to add railcard – so now £1.50 on a Southern train. 1 avios posted immediately but may have to wait till 1st June for the 1k.
That’s useful to know. Thanks Jean. Yes they post very quickly for the basic fares and rides which is good.
I’ve just signed up on the Uber app & tries linking my BS exc club number but there is nowhere on the app to do that. On BA.com it says to go to Accounts>Settings & it’s at the bottom but I don’t have that option come up. Anyone else have this issue? Trying to message Uber but have been waiting for ages!!
It should be on the Uber app.
It’s under settings on Uber down the bottom of the page.
Just figure it out, you have to be sure to have your location enabled. Not even Uber could tell me that’s what it was. I didn’t think that would’ve been the issue, but there you go.
Thanks for the update. Glad you got it sorted.
