The First-Ever Orient Express Hotel is Now Open – La Minerva, Rome
The first Orient Express Hotel has officially opened in Rome, and it’s every bit as luxurious as you’d expect.
Just steps from the Pantheon at Piazza della Minerva 69, the hotel features 93 rooms and 36 suites, all singular in scale, layout, and spirit. Each room pays tribute to the golden age of travel with handcrafted touches, vintage detailing, and a nod to the legendary trains of the past. There are even Rivolta Carmignani linens (the same brand once used on the original sleeper trains).

Gilda Perez-Alvarado, CEO Orient Express, said:
“Opening the doors of Orient Express La Minerva marks a powerful moment in our journey. A city of layered beauty and bold character, Rome offers the perfect canvas to reimagine the legacy of Orient Express through new purpose and experience – where Romans gather, and international aesthetes unite. In partnership with Arsenale Group and through the visionary work of artist-architect Hugo Toro, we have the privilege to breathe new life into a heritage property deeply rooted in the fabric of this timeless city.”
The La Minerva Bar in the lobby is already turning heads with its grand glass roof and the preserved statue of Minerva. Coming in May 2025, Gigi Rigolatto will bring Riviera vibes and sweeping rooftop views, while Mimi Kakushi, opening later this year, will serve up 1920s Osaka-inspired Japanese fusion (already a hit in Dubai).
There are also five spectacular event venues, including The Gallery, Olimpo Ballroom and three meeting rooms.
The opening of the Orient Express Hotel in Rome marks the start of a new era of ultra-luxurious hospitality from the brand. Its debut follows the recent launch of La Dolce Vita Orient Express and anticipates the Orient Express Palazzo Donà Giovannelli opening in Venice later this year.
The hotel is part of the Accor All Plus Rewards programme. The rates have now been released. In the coming weeks, average rates for a Classic Room are £1,074, £2,273 for a Junior Suite and £3,286 for a Suite with a Terrace.
If you’re a fan of the Orient Express or just want to experience Rome at its most luxurious, this is one for the wishlist. It’s on ours already, hopefully we can bring you a review at some point.
