UK and EU First class to Dubai from £2107, Business from £1156
This deal is brought to you by Luxury Flight Club.
You can fly on Swiss or Lufthansa. I would generally go for Swiss in business class. However, if it is a route with the new Lufthansa business class seats (in a 1-2-1 configuration), then I would probably go for that as Swiss’s seats are getting old now. In First, I would probably go with Lufthansa through Frankfurt for the First terminal and car ride to the aircraft. You can read reviews of Lufthansa and Swiss flights here.

Extra EU checks for Brits delayed
As well as the visa waiver system ETIAS to enter the EU, which comes into effect in November 2023, there were also supposed to be more checks on non-EU countries entering the EU that were due to come into force in May 2023. The new requirements included fingerprint and facial recognition checks as well as passport checks. Some estimates said it could take 4 times as long as now. Queues for non-EU entrants are already much longer since BREXIT, and this would have made travel unattractive
The extra checks have now been delayed until December 2023, which is good news for travellers. When they do come in they will apply to 25 EU countries – all EU members except Italy and Cyprus – as well as four non-EU countries – Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein.
Could masks be coming back to US flights?
This week the US Department of Justice has launched an appeal against the ruling from April 2021 which deemed that the CDC’s federal law to enforce masks on public transport including flights to and from the US was unlawful.
The appeal has been launched due to the EU recommendation that passengers on flights from China should be wearing masks due to the high number of Covid cases on flights from China.
There are no plans to apply the rules again to all US flights should they be successful, but the government would not rule it out if there was a surge in cases. Even if there was a surge in cases I don’t believe that mandating masks is necessary except in perhaps the case of a more deadly subvariant. Unless you are going to mandate N95 or similar like Germany did it is pretty pointless anyway.

Michele, do you have any information on whether the enhanced EU fingerprint checks will apply to transit flights via the countries in the scheme?
Further, will they apply in Ireland where the CTA is in force?
Thanks.
None of the documents I have seen so far mention transit. However it does mention crossing the external EU border. So my take would be that if you are transferring to another EU country it would apply. If you were transferring to another non EU country airside it should not. So basically if you have to go through passport control to transit, it would apply.
Ireland will NOT be part of the Schengen Entry/Exit System due to the Common Travel Area.
Italy WILL participate – the mention of Italy as excluded in the above text is wrong.
Thanks….
Is there any clarity whether the checks are just capturing the details on first visit and then just checking if required ( like USA) or doing it every single time, which would be a real pain point
I am looking for destination travel advice. I am travelling to Mozambique in May.
Has anyone travelled recently and can advise on visa processes? There is a mention of new E-visa system but not on Gov.Uk or Mozambique commission in London website. Mozambique commission is not answering phone calls or emails to confirm the process. We leave in Edinburgh, travelling to London is not a problem if we need to get a visa in person but there is no mention how far in advance we can do this.
Any help would be much appreciated.
If you don’t get an answer it could be worth trying the TLFL Facebook group.
Thank you Michele, I’ll join now 😊
