New Heathrow T5 strike
Unite has just announced that around 1,400 Security officers employed at Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL) are to take a further eight days of strike action in a dispute over pay. The workers will now take industrial action on 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10 May and then again on 25, 26, 27 May.
Last time it had little effect on Terminal 5 with manager drafted in to cover the strike. BA’s First Wing was only open for check-in but no security lanes for most of the strike.

Hi Michele, the LHR security staff did actually have quite an impact last time for BA customers like me, with a flight to Mallorca cancelled a week before departure, which presumably wouldn’t have been reinstated even if the strike hadn’t gone ahead! So if you have a short-haul BA ticket for those strikes dates, watch your emails carefully.
And FYI BA refused to extend the companion voucher I’d booked with, citing their Ts and Cs. Once I lodged a more formal complaint however, they gave me enough Avios to keep me happy. I’ve rebooked to go to France in June, and thankfully I’m going from LGW at this time. Personally I would be wary of LHR short haul with BA until this strike is resolved, and I’m warning others in that spirit!
Yes they did cancel a lot of short haul flights last time and I suspect that may happen again although the dates are probably less busy than the Easter hols. But the actual impact on people who managed to fly was pretty minimal in the terminal. Heathrow is a bit of a mess in general even without the strikes so I think LGW is a good move!
The end of May dates will coincide with Half term, so again families will be impacted.
Let’s hope they settle before then.
We flew through LHR on April 4 and 5 and both times found security far faster and more efficient when they were on strike so we’d like them to stay on strike.
