Good new Amex offer
American Express is offering Cardmembers the chance to stay and save £75 with the launch of its latest ‘Amex Stays’ Offer. From 18 April to 1 June 2024, eligible Cardmembers can receive £75 back in a statement credit when they make a minimum payment of £300 (in one transaction) at selected hotels.
This offer is valid at 19 participating hotel brands, including Cafe Royal, Clermont, Doyle Collection, Guoman, Ham Yard, Hotel du Vin, Malmaison, May Fair, One Hundred Shoreditch, Thistle, The Carlton Tower, and Sea Containers. There is a good mix of very luxurious hotels like the Carlton Tower as well as, shall we say, more down-to-earth hotels like the Thistle Heathrow (you’d need a few rooms to make up the £300 there!).
Here are some of the hotels we have reviewed in the group:
- The Carlton Tower Jumeirah, London
- The Marylebone hotel, London (Doyle Collection)
- 1 Devonshire Gardens, Hotel Du Vin Glasgow
- Malmaison Brighton
- Malmaison Glasgow
The good news is that some of the hotels allow the £300 to be on anything, not just checkout spend. I went to a Hotel du Vin a few weeks ago for lunch and had a great meal, so it is good to see no restriction on spend at Hotel du Vin. Make sure you check the specific hotel conditions carefully on the list linked below.
Eligible Cardmembers can take advantage of this offer up to 19 times, once per participating brand, and it applies to payments made online directly on the relevant hotel website or in person at participating locations. A full list of participating brands, hotels and location eligibility can be found here.
To get the discount you need to save the offer to their Card via the Amex® App or online at americanexpress.com. Eligible Cardmembers will see the Offer on display and the £75 statement credit will be applied to their Card Account after they spend. You must book and pay by 1 June 2024 to take advantage of this exclusive offer. The spend must be billed to their Card Account by the offer end date to be eligible.
A statement credit should appear on your Card Account statement within 30 days from the date you made an eligible transaction, but it may take up to 90 days from the Offer End Date.
Heathrow Border Force strike dates announced again
After suspending the previous strike for more talks, PCS Union has announced a strike at the end of this month. Hundreds of PCS members working at Heathrow airport will strike for 4 days from 29 April in response to the Home Office imposing a new roster. The union claim that the new roster would see around 250 staff forced out of their role on passport control.
The 4-day strike will be followed by a work-to-rule up to 18 May. This will be interesting as previously with all out strikes the government has drafted in military help to keep the borders open. It has been so success that many people commented the service was better than usual. However, work to rule is a lot harder to mitigate, so I’d be more concerned about travelling in the post-strike period.
The good news is that the strike dates are only a precaution as the Home Office has agreed to further talks which begin this week. If the talks are not successful, this notice will allow strike action to take place sooner than waiting until after the talks to announce dates, as 14 days’, notice must be given.
Rosewood 25% off and hotel credit
Rosewood has a new offer for 25% off and hotel credit. These offers vary by hotel for stay dates, but they are generally from April onwards. This offer comes up regularly, so it is nothing particularly special. Sometimes we even see some hotels up to 40% off. The hotel credit varies by hotel and room type and vary between $100-500. Cancellation policy is dependant on each hotel.
You may want to check with our luxury travel partners GTC, if you are planning to book Rosewood hotels, as they can offer additional benefits, usually with free cancellation:
- Guaranteed upgrade at time of booking, based on availability
- Guaranteed early check-in/late check-out, based on availability
- Daily breakfast for up to 2 per room
- Either GBP 85 F&B or spa credit
Qatar sale extended
I wrote about the latest Qatar Airways sale last week which has some decent fares. The sale was due to end today but has now been extended until 19 April. You can find the sale page here.

This is amex trying to redeem themselves. I for one will not be falling for it. As soon as I have my latest companion voucher, I’m off.
With regards to Border Force at Heathrow – they just need to sack them all and be done with it – complete losers.
