Heathrow strike dates confirmed
I have written a couple of times about the impending strike by members of the PCS union who work for Border Force at Heathrow Airport. Today, the PCS union has announced the dates for the strike, with action taking place from 11-14 April 2024. The strike is over changes to shift patterns, which the union claims could result in job losses of 250 positions. If I were flying on those dates, I would not be overly concerned as previously, the military was brought in to cover, and if anything, queues were shorter than normal!
A Home Office spokesperson said: “We are disappointed with the union’s decision to strike. Keeping our borders secure remains our top priority.
“We have robust plans in place to avoid disruption and will deploy necessary personnel to meet demand on what we have long known will be one of the busiest travel days. We are confident in our plans to minimise the impact of this industrial action.”

Thankfully it is only 4 days. Seems like baggage handlers are never on duty. Just arrived at Heathrow T5 from Doha and was through passport control in under 6 minutes from walking off the plane (including catching the connecting train) and have been told that bags could take an hour to be delivered. Completely unacceptable. Surely has to be the worst in the world?
Definitely not the worst in the world. Have waited well over an hour elsewhere. However, totally agree that’s not acceptable. It seems to have recently got worse and I’m hearing lots of stories of 1 hour+ waits for baggage in the last few months.
