LOT’s classy new business class
I was recently surprised by a very positive review of LOT’s business class by a TLFL reader, as I have always regarded them as slightly subpar. They do, however, often have some great value fares. LOT seems to have lofty ambitions to expand and offer a more premium product. Whether this causes the prices to rise remains to be seen. LOT have now unveiled their new business class seats for the B787-8, which are due to be available from 2026. They look pretty impressive with an elegant design and will be retrofitted to the entire existing fleet.
The seating configuration in LOT Business Class will change to 1-2-1, thus giving aisle access for all seats. The seats will be suites with an individual door for privacy. There will also be additional storage for small items.
LOT passengers on long-haul flights will also benefit from a new state-of-the-art entertainment system. The Boeing 787-8 fleet will be upgraded to feature 4K resolution screens of 17.3 inches in LOT Business Class and will offer the ability to connect headsets to the in-flight entertainment system using Bluetooth technology. All seats will come equipped with the modern USB-C charging port standard, while LOT Premium Economy Class and LOT Business Class seats will have universal power sockets, and the LOT Business Class seat will additionally feature a wireless charging built-in.
British Airways to replace their B777s?
Bloomberg has reported that IAG, BA’s parent company, has started discussions with both Boeing and Airbus to place an order to replace their ageing B777 fleet. The B777 is my least favourite BA aircraft to fly as it does not have the improvements of the A350 and B787, such as better humidity and air pressure in the cabin. It’s also just bland compared to the A380, in my opinion. Their B777-200 fleet is ancient, with many over 20 years old. Although at least with the new Club Suites being installed it has given them a new lease of life.
BA operates around 60 B777s, which is over half of its long haul fleet. According to sources, BA is looking to place an order of at least 20 aircraft to replace the oldest aircraft as it has still been receiving newer versions of the B777-300ER with its new First suite. BA already has the B777X on order, as well as more A350s and B787s.
It is not expected that a decision is imminent.
100% Hilton Buy bonus
Hilton’s latest buy bonus promotion has launched with a 100% bonus when you buy before 23 November 2023. This is about as good as their bonuses get, so worth considering as a top-up or if it is cheaper to buy points for your chosen hotel. I do not recommend buying them on speculation, and if you plan to use them for a specific hotel, make sure you book it immediately after purchasing to ensure it is still available at the same points rate.
They have also doubled the limit for the amount of points you can buy to 160,000 points before the 100% bonus. Usually, it is a maximum of 80,000 points per member per calendar year.
You can find the buy Hilton Points page here.

I recall when 777s entered service. I was flying LHR to nyc regularly. I repeatedly suffered nose bleeds. The crew told me they did too and on one flight I was asked by the CSD to complete a complaint form as BA told crews they were exaggerating!
Interesting. I’ve heard of people not feeling great after flying the b777 but that’s pretty extreme. I wonder if it’s the dry atmosphere?
I agree with you Michele, about BA’s 777s. I find them noisy (engine and cabin trim rattles) and uncomfortable. The old yin/yang/ Club layout is not fit for purpose. That’s before thinking about the sub-par catering and the overcrowded lounge. When I look on the BA flight finder, if the flights offered use a 777 then I book elsewhere.
I flew out to LAX last month on a new (2023) 777 with Club Suite seating and was pleasantly surprised – very quiet and comfortable. The return to LHR on an A350 was still a more pleasant experience overall however.
Strange that they have fitted their old aircraft with the Club Suite, but they are so slow with fitting the newer B787. All my flights to Tokyo until next September (with one exception on a B777 in February) are still showing the old seat plan. So frustrating!
Yes the roll out has been very slow. Hopefully you will get a nice surprise nearer the time.
