Where are BA storing their aircraft?
One of the many problems facing BA at the moment is where to store all the aircraft that are currently not flying. For short-haul aircraft, some amazing photos that show the size of the issue have emerged from Bournemouth airport. Last week there were a massive 23 BA aircraft at Bournemouth.
Well as the last @British_Airways and @BOHAirport picture went down so well, here’s another one for you. ^SM pic.twitter.com/BZ6k4krZp8

The pictures below are from James Williams, a former colleague of mine in ATC:
Glasgow also has at least 13 short haul aircraft which you can see in this great shot:

The rest of the BA short haul airbus aircraft are split between St Athan (where aircraft are retired, so they may not return), Madrid, Heathrow and Gatwick. There is also one aircraft at Brussels and Lyon airports.
In terms of long haul, the majority of the grounded aircraft are still at Heathrow or Gatwick. BA currently have around 6 B777s, 2 B787s and 6 B747s at Cardiff. You would expect that BA would be making use of their new A350s but rather oddly they only seem to be using one of the three A350s. Some of the routes they operate have been cancelled, but I am surprised they don’t use the more fuel-efficient A350 aircraft on other routes in the meantime.

Sadly one B747 GCIVM has also been retired early. Another 5 are due for retirement in 2020 and 3 in 2021. It is rumoured that BA are bringing forward some of the retirements. The entire B747 fleet is being retired by 2024 anyway. Both KLM and Qantas retired their last B747 recently.
Have you seen any BA aircraft parked up somewhere? Let us know in the comments below or on social media.
