If you are looking to fly to Australia in business class, then the two places that I recommend travelling from are currently Paris or Stockholm as they generally have the cheapest fares on decent airlines. I would expect to pay around £2000-2300 on average from these places. If you want to know what you should be paying for your business class ticket have a look at my guide to target flight prices here.
The fares is from Stockholm to Sydney. As usual, there is a drawback in why they are so cheap – you have two stops on the way to Australia. However, given the length of the journey, this is not a bad thing. Remember you can always break your journey by up to 24 hours at a transfer airport on any ticket no matter what the stopover restrictions. The flights are with Etihad. Whilst they have had cutbacks recently to business class, I would still regard them as a good airline to fly with.
There are various routeing options including via Heathrow which has The Home lounge that is pretty good. I would advise whichever you choose to try and get the A380 or the B787 as these have Etihad’s best seats – the Business Class Studio – which I think are excellent. You can read my review here.
The rules of the fare are:
- Book by: 16 October 2019
- Travel: Permitted 01 Oct 19 through 31 Jan 20 on the first international sector. It appears limited to in October and December and then most of November and January except Friday, Saturday.
- Minimum stay: 3 nights
- Maximum stay: 4 months
- Transfers: Unlimited
- Stopovers: Unlimited stopovers permitted – limited to 2 free and unlimited at €150.00 each. 1 free in each direction.
- Refundable: No
- Changeable: Yes
You can book direct with Etihad here or find the cheapest online travel agent price with Skyscanner.

I flew business class on an Etihad A380 last month and I was very impressed with the comfort and service that I received. This looks like a worthwhile offer.
May I ask why you don’t usually recommend Copenhagen as an Ex EU spot? We booked tickets with Qatar to Sydney from Copenhagen in November for £2100!
Normally as it doesn’t come up very often as cheap compared to the consistent pricing from Stockholm but nothing wrong with it if you can get a good price!
Just returned from Sydney with Etihad starting in Oslo with the two stops on way there, but direct to Heathrow on the way back.
I thought the seats were good, if a little hard. We had middle ones together and I actually preferred those to Qatar’s seats as it felt less claustrophobic with lots of space between us rather than completely separate seats (not comparing to Qatar’s new seats, I can’t comment on that…yet!) The soft product and service I felt were quite inferior to what I’ve experienced on Qatar flying to Sydney twice before. Not that it was terrible, it was acceptable given the price paid I feel. But I think I’d choose Qatar over Etihad if there was a choice. No pjs, no bedding. No one would check if you wanted drinks or food beyond the start of the flight and overall you just felt less attended to or valued as a customer. Not complaining…just an observation. This might suit those who like being left alone more. I thought that my husband would like that given what a grump he is being fussed over, but even he said it was really inferior.
Anyway! I would totally recommend the Etihad flights at this price. The main lounge in Abu Dhabi was great, even if less impressive than Qatar’s. It was great for a shower and refresh. Completely superior to most airline lounges.
Random perk of Etihad: they had minimal drivel at the start of any entertainment like films and you could fast forward through it too. Big thumbs up for that! They also don’t collect headsets or stop the entertainment until you’ve landed.
I agree with you on Etihad. Definitely not as good as Qatar but if it’s cheaper still a good product
Thanks for the reply Michele – I was a bit worried that something might be wrong going from Copenhagen! £2100 was a bargain I thought as there is only one stop in Doha. Also the return flight has us on 2 Q suites! Slight downside is the slightly short 2hour layover in Doha, so not much time to enjoy the lounge…
