E sim 15% off
If you usually just pay the fee for your mobile account per day to use your phone abroad, the chances are you are overpaying. Often you don’t actually need much data since most places have wifi but you only have to use the phone or data once to be charged the whole day. I have now switched to using e-sims which offer a great value and easy alternative.
Some people buy physical sim cards, but unless you have a phone with a dual sim, this means losing your number while you have the other sim in. Most modern phones can accept an esim which is easy to add to your phone. Then you only pay for the data you use as you buy an amount of data rather than paying per day. You can then keep your normal number for phone calls and the sim for data, which, of course, means you can make phone calls through WhatsApp/Messenger/Facetime, etc, for free.
There are a number of companies now offering this, and we have partnered with Instabridge to bring you an exclusive 15% off code for new customers. This will allow you to try out the service with a discount. Instarbidge offers esims in 127 countries and you can check before you go to see if you will be covered. You buy the sim card for a specific country.
- Code: TLFL15
- Offer: 15% discount on all data plans
- Expiry Date: 30th September 2024
- T’s & C’s: Code can be used multiple times but only one time per user, new customers only
Code works on the website only, by adding promo code during the checkout process.
I have used SIMs before and found the process a bit simpler on Instabridge. It basically guides you through the entire process, which takes a couple of minutes. You can buy the SIM in advance and then activate it on Wi-Fi when you land.
You basically scan a QR code and then it sets itself up. You just need to then set your mobile data to the new sim and the voice calls to your current sim.
You can use the code on their website here.
15% off Clubrooms
From today, until Wednesday 31st July, you can get 15% off Clubrooms lounge visits for any future travel date.
Clubrooms offer guests travelling through Gatwick North, Gatwick South, and Birmingham Airport a much better experience than the standard No 1 lounge in my experience. They are usually much quieter, with table service and a more extensive menu. The decor also feels much more luxurious.
If you’re travelling through Gatwick or Birmingham Airport, you can get 15% off Clubrooms by entering the discount code CRJULY at the checkout on their website here.
Hilton scraps pool UK fee
Hilton decided in its wisdom after Covid to start charging fees at certain hotels for using the pool. Some of them were removed, but Hilton Glasgow, NEC Birmingham, and Nottingham remained. This did not go down well with pretty much anyone. If I specifically wanted a hotel with a pool and then was faced with extra fees to use it, I would be fuming. It also feels like one step in the direction of the US model with “resort fees” which is just a way of having a mandatory fee to hide the true price. For me, you should never have to pay to use a pool, unless it is a premium pool such as a spa pool or a second hotel pool.
The good news is that Hilton has no said it will no longer charge a pool fee in the UK. The website has not been updated yet to reflect this.

I don’t think the story is true about pools not being charged for in the UK.
Maybe one or two might drop it, but some are part of spa setups.
Hilton did confirm that Greg weren’t charging for pool access however I expect there will be some exceptions like you say when it includes a full spa.
