Amex Platinum new £400 travel credit + 40k MR bonus
American Express has launched a limited time offer on The Platinum Card®, offering new Cardmembers £400 in travel credit to spend with Amex Travel Online and the chance to win tickets to The Championships, Wimbledon 2025, on top of the usual 40,000 Membership Rewards point sign up bonus.
From today until 27 August 2024, new Amex Platinum Cardmembers will be able to earn a bonus £400 in travel credit to spend with Amex Travel Online, when they sign up and spend £6,000 in the first three months of Cardmembership.
They also have the chance to win tickets to Wimbledon 2025, where American Express is Official Payment Partner of The Championships. Fifty pairs of Centre Court or Court One tickets are up for grabs for those who meet the £6,000 spend threshold.
New Cardmembers also continue to earn 40,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when they spend £6,000 in the first three months. 40,000 Membership Rewards are equal to 40,000 Avios or Virgin Points as an example. They can also be exchanged for Emirates miles or Hilton or Marriott points. I really like the versatliuty of being able to keep a pile of Amex points and simply transfer the over to the loyalty scheme when I need to top up. Most transfers are either instant or only take a couple of days to credit.
The Amex Travel Online credit can be redeemed on flights, bookings at 1,500+ worldwide hotels, or car rental.
The Platinum Card is expensive at £600 a year, however, if you use most of the perks you can actually get more benefit out than the card costs. This is particularly true of you use the frequent hotel and airline credit offers.
Perks of the card include:
- Hotel Benefits, including complimentary room upgrades and late check outs
- Global Lounge Access, with access to over 1,400+ airport lounges across 140 countries with Priority Pass
- Exclusive access to lower fares in First, Business and Premium Economy with the International Airline Program

Match from British Airways Executive Club status to Skyteam and Star Alliance
SAS will switch from Star Alliance to SkyTeam on 1 September 2024. In the meantime, they have opened a status match for Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Finnair, and British Airways frequent flier programs until 30 August 2024. The status match is open for most European countries including the UK. If you are planning to fly Virgin, this could be a useful match to have as it will give you perks with Virgin Atlantic from September when it becomes Skyteam.
You can apply for a Status Match in EuroBonus if you hold:
– Star Alliance Silver (to EuroBonus Silver)
– Star Alliance Gold (to EuroBonus Gold)
– OneWorld Ruby (to Eurobonus Silver) – BA Bronze
– OneWorld Sapphire or Emerald (to EuroBonus Gold) BA Silver or Gold.
General Qualifications:
– You must live in one of the eligible countries
– Be a member of a qualifying tier level in the frequent flyer programs to choose from.
– You have been a member for a minimum of three months in the program you status match from
Keep your new level in EuroBonus for extended time:
Your EuroBonus account, if eligible for status match, will be upgraded to either Silver or Gold until 31 March 2025. To keep your new level longer (your current qualification period + your full next qualification period), meet the qualification below:
- Silver: Minimum 2 flown SAS flights until 31st of March 2025
- Gold: Minimum 5 flown SAS flights until 31st of March 2025
You can find the SAS Eurobonus status match form here.
As the Star Alliance status will convert to Skyteam on 1 September, you can then use your new SAS status for a new Star Alliance match to Lufthansa Miles and More which you will find here.
The status match gives the new Lufthansa status until February 2025. EuroBonus Silver members will get Frequent Traveller status on Miles & More, EuroBonus Gold will receive Senator status, as will EuroBonus Diamond and Pandion status-holders. To maintain the status for an additional year, you must complete two flight segments with Lufthansa Group airlines by 30 November for Lufthansa Frequent Traveller status and for Senator status, six flight segments within the same period.

I applied for the BA/SAS status match using my Silver BA status and received this (tedious) reply:
“ Please reply to this email and include:
1. European Passport copy (you can mask the Passport number)
– Full name, expiry date, and country of citizenship must be visible.
OR (if non-European passport) – Passport + proof of residence in Europe.
(Valid proof such as utility bill, phone bill or similar).
2. Screenshot or photo of your FFP loyalty card
– Your loyalty number , full name, and tier must be visible.
3. Account transaction statement for the last 90 days for your BA Executive Club account showing activity.”
so fortunate I have absolutely nothing else to do with my time…
That’s annoying! Although most matches ask for some sort of proof to verify though this seems a lot.
I applied for the SAS Eurobonus Gold status based on BA Gold and was approved.
However, when I applied for the Lufthansa Miles and More Senator Status using the new SAS status I got denied. I got a message saying that I was denied because my SAS status was the result of a status match and not from flying activity.
Oh well, at least I still have the Turkish Airlines Elite Status as a result of the status match I got with them 7 years ago.
That’s a shame! Well it was worth a try and sky team is always handy.
I got the same message when I tried to match my recently acquired SAS Gold to Miles & More.
I’ve also applied for the ITA Volare status match.
So when my SAS status transfers to SkyTeam, hopefully my ITA status will transfer to Star Alliance, when they are bought by Lufthansa.
Sounds like a cunning plan!
