Introduction
So I recently wanted a nice large hotel room in London for the night. Sadly Hyatt hasn’t reopened the Andaz, New Scotland Yard or Hyatt Regency Churchill yet, so I went over to my Hilton app.
And low and behold you wouldn’t even know there was a Pandemic! All properties open, and most heavily discounted! I have stayed in the following before –
- One of the top suites in Hilton Park Lane – dated and not worth the money/points.
- Duplex suites at the Conrad St James – nice but very “clinical”
I have also stayed in Hilton Bankside many, many times. It’s a nice modern property and the normal one bedroom suites are lovely. If you get an upgrade into one a bonus – this happens quite frequently as a Diamond! I checked further down the list, and found The Penthouse Suite listed for what appeared to be a “good” rate for central London. I had a quick look around google and decided to take the plunge.
I won’t bore you with details of the hotel as Michele has and will cover again soon, as she has also stayed here recently.
The Penthouse Suite Room
Check-in was a breeze and off I went to the 4th floor. I was given 4 free drinks due to the lounge being shut.
There is only one of these room in the property and you can’t miss the “PENTHOUSE” labeling.
I have to admit – it was cheap for what promised to be a very very nice room so I was skeptical. How wrong was I….
Upon opening the door I was greeted by a modern but fresh-looking entrance way which looked like it lead into some form of office (judging by the VERY odd TV stand). It did become clear though, that straight on was the bedroom.
Walking around it opened up into the spacious living area with some stairs…. more on that later!
The Penthouse Suite Living Area
The living area was vast but very well laid out to me. Small touches like the chessboard and a globe showed some personal detail had gone into the decor and it wasn’t “just another suite”.
Following the room round leads to a small kitchenette area and dining table.
The area was well stocked with everything you could need for a short, or even longer stay. The drinks in the fridge are complimentary.
Looking back down into the living area, you can see the TV which can be hidden behind the sliding doors if required. Also, a small desk there with ample power and a phone was a great spot to do some work from.
I loved it – it was like a home-from-home vibe and offered plenty of usable space and seating.
Just off the living area was one of the two bathrooms, which, again – was well decorated with some nice touches like the wood paneling.
The Penthouse Suite Bedroom
So into the bedroom – that TV?! I mean? I don’t even know why! I twisted the big handle at the front, expecting it to “move” but nothing happened so I left it as is! Another desk is also as you walk in.
Turning to the right is one of the largest and most comfortable Hilton beds I have ever slept in! Directly looking out through the vast panoramic windows. Again top marks for plenty of power and USB ports.
Above the bed was more sliding facades looking into the stunning bathroom.
And to the end of the bedroom was more “living” space, which was a nice touch. The door to the right then leads into the walk-in closet.
The closet was plenty big enough and well laid out – they even include a Dyson hairdryer for use – never seen that before!
The Penthouse Suite Bathroom
Turn right and into the bathroom and wow – look at that tub!
His and hers sinks – naturally – slightly disappointing they didn’t change the default Hilton toiletries in this room – a small niggle I feel though.
Behind the bath was the huge walk-in shower with multiple heads and controls.
The Penthouse Suite Outdoor Terrace
But without doubt the jewel in this “suite” – your own private outdoor terrace!
The perfect space for your morning coffee (or evening champagne!)
Final Words and Pricing
I loved it. I loved the decor, the style, the space, the outdoors! And the price? This room is yours for just over £500/night right now. You can also pay with points for 253,000 a night.
In fact, I loved it so much, I am back all this weekend relaxing there! If that isn’t high praise, I don’t know what is.
There was only one negative – don’t expect a lie in – the curtains in the main room are blackout, but as the window is SO BIG enough light gets let in over the top to make it almost daylight. Not a show stopper – but something I feel obliged to point out.
And before anyone says it – yes there are far better hotel rooms in London – but for £500? I beg to differ.
You can find more details about the Hilton Bankside in this review, and prices on the Hilton Bankside website. There will be a more in-depth review of the Hilton Bankside in the current post-COVID situation coming soon.

Sounds like they launched that room at the wrong time, hence the current discount. We could almost organise a do there though 😀
(Would you be able to store enough champagne in that fridge?)
