How to unlock your Avios reward flights
One of the biggest frustrations of Avios is finding availability. I know as I have been trying to find availability to Charleston for some time now and even 11 months ahead it is tricky! One way to unlock availability is by using a “joker” which you get when you reach 5,000 Tier points and become a Gold Guest List member. You can then renew at 3,000 tier points per year if you don’t mind about not getting Concord Room access. A joker allows you to unlock availability for up to 5 people on one flight providing there are certain revenue fare buckets available.
If you are a Gold Executive Club Member you also have access to Gold Priority Rewards. This means you can force availability by paying double the normal Avios. This can be done providing it is at least 30 days in advance of the flight by calling the BA Gold line.
There is now another way to unlock availability with a special offer from British Airways. If you book and fly 4 Club World or First flights by 7 January 2020 you will get a Reward Flight Access redemption reward for up to 5 passengers on the same booking.
- Simply register using the button on this BA page – you must do this before booking
- Book and fly four return trips in Club World (Business) or First class cabins by 12 February 2020
- Look out for instructions in the New Year on how to redeem your exclusive reward flight access
There are a few rules to be aware of:
- Amman, Beirut, Moscow, Tel Aviv are excluded as qualifying flights
- The offer is only available to BA Executive Club members that are based in the UK.
- You must fly on BA and codeshares do not count
- The Reward Flight access redemption must be booked between 28 February 2020 and 30 April 2020 to fly until 31 October 2020
- Limited redemptions will be available 27-29 March; 3-5 April; 22-23 May; 17-19 July; 23-25 July, Inbound 17-19 Apr; 30-31 May; 28-31 Aug.
- BA will contact you to provide instructions in relation to redeeming the Exclusive Reward Flight Access.
- You must book at least 30 days in advance of travel for the redemption

Two return flights? Does this include codeshares? And would a multi-segment like London to Sydney count as one or two?
It does not include code shares. I can’t see whether Sydney would count as 2 in the T &C so I think you would need to clarify with BA. My guess is that it would be 2.
the window is quite short and sadly most offers dont include trips you have already booked within the window
You didn’t teach us how to get the joker feature to attach to a regular Avila account.
