New Amex Offer: Get £250 Back on Virgin Atlantic Flights
Virgin Atlantic has just launched another generous American Express cashback offer, following the success of similar deals over the past year. If you’re planning to fly with Virgin Atlantic soon, this one’s definitely worth a look.
You’ll get £250 cashback when you spend £2,000 on Virgin Atlantic flights. The offer is valid for bookings made by 30th June 2025, as long as your flight departs from a UK airport. A flight in Upper Class would almost always trigger this spend.
The offer is open to just 15,000 cards, so if you’re planning to take advantage of it, I advise you to do it now. These offers are usually gone within days,
If you’re on the fence about getting an AMEX card with membership fees, some of the cashback deals offered could offset all (or at least a huge chunk of) the yearly fee.
To check if you’ve been targeted for the offer, log in to your AMEX account or app and go to the ‘Offers’ tab. If the offer appears, make sure to click ‘Save to Card’ before booking. If you have multiple AMEX cards, check them all.
You’ll automatically get the £250 statement credit, usually within a few days of meeting the threshold.
Things to Note
- Cumulative spend counts. Your £2,000 spend doesn’t need to be a single transaction.
- Virgin Holidays and Virgin Points purchases do not count.
- The offer is only available to some general AMEX cards, not specific ones like BA cards.
- Redemption flights may qualify as long as your taxes and fees total £2,000 or more.
- Bookings must be made directly with Virgin Atlantic to qualify.
If you haven’t already, make sure you read our guide to the Virgin Atlantic loyalty programme.

Keep It Packed: Gatwick Completes Installation of CT Scanners
Good news if you’re planning to fly from Gatwick Airport (even better if you’re a regular Gatwick traveller). Next-generation CT scanners have just been installed across all 19 security lanes. From now on, you can leave your liquids (up to 100ml) and electronics like laptops in your hand luggage during screening.
This brings Gatwick in line with other UK airports like London City, Luton, Birmingham, Bristol and Southend. The new Smiths Detection CT scanners use advanced 3D imaging to improve security while speeding up the screening process.
Cyrus Dana, Head of Security at Gatwick, said:
“More than 95% of passengers already pass through security at London Gatwick in under five minutes. This is a positive change, with the scanners allowing our passengers to travel through the airport with more ease.”
Key Information
- Other airports have yet to catch up. On your return, the usual rules may still apply (1-litre clear plastic bag rule and 100 ml liquid container limit).
- There are no changes to the rules on the carriage of dangerous goods.
- It’s still recommended that you arrive at the airport two hours before a short-haul flight and three hours before a long flight.
This upgrade comes just in time for busy periods like the school Easter Holidays and summer and is part of Gatwick’s broader goal to offer a smoother, more sustainable passenger experience. It also marks the end of the multi-million-pound project to transform its security screening process. Hopefully, security queues will be shorter, and you will be able to travel with less stress and spend more time in the lounge!
